Most Event Planners Don’t Value Photographers In Port Harcourt
Phenomenal Port Harcourt based host and creator, Mr Prof hosted Roy Clintson, a premium Port Harcourt based photographer and creator, on a his regular talk show on which they both talked about photographers and their stories.
At first, the photographer was asked about the challenges faced in the photography business, he responded, “Cost of gadgets and trying to please clients”.
Mr Prof then brought up a trend of females offering their body to photographers as payment for services rendered by the photographer instead of cash.
Roy Clintson said he do call that act ‘knack and take’, saying as they have ‘wait and take’, he calls that act ‘knack and take’ (laughing). He also said that it all depends on how the photographer portrays his brand (business), and on his side, he hasn’t gotten such encounter or experience since he started photographing.
Mr Prof asked him about the lifestyle of the residents of Port Harcourt towards photographers. Roy Clintson replied saying, firstly Port Harcourt is trying to accept a certain type of growth (using ‘ancient’ as a descriptive word). The way other people treat photographers in their city is way too different from that of Port Harcourt as most residents in the city are too familiar with the photographers (using ‘see-finish’ as a descriptive word). He continued by saying they have not really accepted the culture of photography in the city.
Next, Mr Prof brought up the question of, “how do event planners treat photographers in the city of Port Harcourt?” Roy Clintson’s facial expression became dull and he said the event planners disvalue the photographers a lot – they pay much for decorations of the event and other excesses but when it comes to the price (payment) of the photographers’, they start negotiating and even quoting to pay lesser than the budget of the photographers not realizing that without taking photos (pictures) of those decorated events and scenes, there will be no memory kept to fall back on.
Mr Prof dashed in conclusively saying, the Port Harcourt residents need kill that ‘see-finish’ syndrome, also in other parts of Nigeria as a lifestyle towards photographers.
